Challenges for Ukraine's Gas Market in 2025
At the start of 2025, the company "Naftogaz" imported around 800 million cubic meters of gas following attacks and a decline in production.
This was reported by the press service of "Naftogaz".
The acting chairman of Naftogaz, Roman Chumak, shared this information during a meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome.
"Due to the attacks, we have lost part of our gas production; thus, our priority is to restore damaged facilities and resume production before the next heating season.
Additionally, the Group continues to import gas to compensate for losses and ensure adequate reserves – approximately 800 million cubic meters of gas have been imported since the beginning of the year," the statement noted.
Naftogaz also mentioned that work is ongoing with the government and international partners to explore funding opportunities for the necessary gas volumes for the upcoming winter.
As a reminder:
Ukraine may import a record 5 billion cubic meters of gas from Europe due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure and depletion of reserves.
