Transforming Education: New Strategies for Teaching National Defense

Ukraine's educational system is undergoing significant transformations to meet the contemporary demands of society. The need to cultivate practical skills in students becomes increasingly important, enabling them to protect themselves, their families, and their nation.

As a result, the reform of the «National Defense» course is ongoing.

Initiated by the Department of Education and Science of the Odessa City Council, a working meeting was held at Odessa Lyceum No. 1 named after A.P. Bistrina to discuss the establishment and functioning of National Defense teaching centers in municipal secondary education institutions in the community of Odessa.

The meeting involved: heads of secondary education institutions, teachers of the «National Defense» subject, representatives of public and veteran organizations, members of the Odessa City Council, and also members of the Coordination Council on National-Patriotic Education under the Odessa Mayor.

During the meeting, issues regarding the creation and functioning of National Defense teaching centers in the city's educational institutions, efficient resource utilization, and the enhancement of the organizational work of the «National Defense» subject in light of current challenges were discussed.

The attendees were introduced to recommendations for setting up the aforementioned centers, developed by the project office for «Updating the National Defense curriculum» supported by the «Partnership for a Strong Ukraine» Fund, and a guideline for establishing centers for teaching the «National Defense» course in educational institutions.
