Arrest of Attacker in Odesa: New Details of the Incident

Police have arrested a 34-year-old resident of Odesa who attacked a couple over a mobile phone. The assailant injured both victims, striking the man with a stone and the woman with a knife. He faces up to 15 years in prison with asset confiscation for his actions.

This information was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police.

The incident occurred in the Kyiv district of Odesa. The assailant asked the couple for a mobile phone to make a call but fled with it. The couple pursued him, but he struck the man in the head with a stone and stabbed the woman in the shoulder with a knife. The man lost consciousness, and his wife called for help from passersby, who contacted the police and an ambulance. Doctors provided medical assistance and released them home. The man suffered a head injury, and the woman had a stab wound.

Law enforcement discovered that the attacker had a prior criminal record for theft and robbery. A knife was seized from his residence, along with other material evidence from the scene, which was sent for forensic examination. The stolen phone was sold, and the police are currently tracking its whereabouts.

"Based on the collected evidence, we have notified the suspect of his charge for robbery involving violence, which poses a threat to the health of the attacked individual. This crime is classified under part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and can result in imprisonment for up to 15 years with asset confiscation. At our request, the court has chosen to detain the suspect", - stated Senior Investigator of the Odesa District Police Department No. 1 Kateryna Boratynska.

Additionally, a legal case has been initiated for the bodily harm inflicted on the woman under Article 125 of the Criminal Code. Following judicial examinations and other evidence collected during the pre-trial investigation, the investigators will provide a final legal qualification of the suspect's actions.
